Leaving our beds, the ensuite is often the first room to greet us in the morning. It is also the last place we visit before heading back to our beds.  It needs to function well, with great storage and organization, so it can be kept clean and serene, but, it should also be pretty and put together so that that first/last room we visit each day feels oh so good.

The ensuite renovation I wanted to share with you today wasn’t a space that felt too small or unorganized, it just felt wrong.  It felt like a large space that was wasted with a small corner shower no one wanted to use, a bulky and hard to clean tub set in tile and wood, and the whole ensuite had become quite outdated.  Beyond wanting their Ensuite to be a beautiful gem in their home they wanted a larger shower with a bench seat, a freestanding tub, and frosted windows that allowed privacy and lots of light.

The existing toilet was placed behind the door when you first walked in.  We switched the toilet and the shower locations which allowed us to keep an oversized vanity but also expand the shower.  It also made the end of the ensuite look so open and airy with the beautiful freestanding tub and bright frosted windows.

I hope you enjoy these pictures from before and after.

Picking Colors for your kitchen, whether it is the stain or paint color for your cabinets, the backsplash color, the countertop color, the…the list is large…can be a daunting task for many.  I argue it can be a lot of fun though too!  Find that piece of inspiration.  I love it when a client comes to me stumped with their upcoming kitchen renovation but then they tell me about this stunning backsplash tile they saw once and fell in love with.  Or maybe they even had a pinterest picture they pinned 5 years ago and still love to this day.  Maybe that backsplash or the pinterest picture will be the jumping off point to a kitchen pulled together beautifully and perfect for you…a kitchen where all the colors, all the finishes, come together for the finished look you’ve always wanted.

I’m currently working on pricing a walk-in closet design for a client.  This client had the opportunity to expand their Master Bedroom over top of their existing garage…taking them from a small master bedroom with a tiny closet and ensuite to share, to a large open space with tons of potential.  Here is a peek at a preliminary version of their new open concept walk-in closet.  This space will be open to a hall that runs into the main area of the master bedroom and will be across from the Ensuite door.  This means I want it to be highly functional (as closets should always be) but also beautiful and clean.

The option you see pictured above is being priced in an affordable and durable thermofoil finish from Kitchen Craft Cabinets.

Choosing to renovate your existing kitchen, or building a new home that needs all new cabinets, can feel like a big undertaking.  It can also cost a lot of money.  And how disappointing it can be when you land up with a kitchen that feels all wrong.  The layout doesn’t function. The appliances aren’t placed right. Everything feels like it is in the wrong spot. Or worst yet, the expensive quartz countertop you purchased from a small sample, gets installed and doesn’t coordinate with the cabinets or backsplash (and you know they won’t let you return it!).

Hiring a designer to help with such an investment as buying kitchen cabinets is crucial.  I say investment because most people spend a lot of time in their kitchens, it is a gathering place in most homes, and best yet, great kitchens add real estate value to your home.  Also, kitchen cabinets and kitchen renovations can cost a pretty penny and your design services to get it right will be small in comparison. Hire a designer for some initial guidance on your kitchen floorplan, or figuring out which wall to remove or change, or for your appliance placement, etc.  And hire them to help you put every single finish together and make sure it coordinates. Have you ever thought about how many finish selections there are to make in a kitchen big or small?  You will have flooring, cabinets (maybe even 2 colors of cabinets), countertop, backsplash, handles and knobs, light fixtures, baseboard moldings…to name a few.  And then think about countertops more specifically.  Will you want laminate countertops, quartz countertops, granite countertops, or another solid surface?  See! It can feel like a big undertaking and you really don’t want to be disappointed after making all those decisions.
